Active play, outdoor play and experiences, and the Barnehage Curriculum combine in exceptional ways to provide a stimulating, varied nursery life for children.
With its own unique Scottish version of an original Norwegian concept, the Barnehage has since January 2009 been successfully putting its ideas to work in its custom-designed nursery between Hamilton and East Kilbride, in South Lanarkshire, Scotland.
Sue Palmer, education consultant and author of Toxic Childhood has said, “The Scandinavians have clearly got things right with a child-centred, play-based, structured early year’s curriculum that concentrates on children’s physical, social, linguistic and personal development. It is encouraging to see this model at Hamilton International Park.”
SCANDINAVIAN INSPIRATION, SCOTTISH INTERPRETATION
“Barnehage” literally means “child garden” in Norwegian, and is an equivalent of “kindergarten”.
Think of the Scots word “bairn”, and it will seem even closer to home.
Welcome to a breath of fresh air in nursery education and more.
At the Barnehage we aspire to create a fun, caring environment through excellent play opportunities. To achieve our aim, we will provide a high quality early years education which helps nurture children towards their full potential as confident individuals, responsible citizens, effective contributors and successful learners.
